- Three World War II veterans, two of them traumatized or disabled, return home to the American midwest to discover that they and their families have been irreparably changed.
- Return to school where hope collides with the inflexible didactic tradition of indoctrination by annihilation. In the long tradition of senior student films that recast personal history as an ambivalent farewell, 'Best Years' sees this reality as both comedy and tragedy. Filmed at a medical school, in 1975, the story is a fictional but emotionally accurate account of growth through adversity. Although the story embraces the proposition that 'change is for the best' the final scenes leave this, at best, as an ambiguous possibility.
- Tackling euthanasia as its theme, Epitaph is a story of love, reflection and devotion told through the eyes of a cancer stricken couple preparing to let go and peacefully decide to end their own lives - together. Emotionally heart wrenching, one can see the true nature of love, and as the tears flow, not only from sadness but from the joy of devotion and empathetic humanity. The film is a triumph.
